• Collarbone protection and visor release: a raised area designed with padding effectively reduces forces transmitted to the collarbone, while a patented visor release system ensures it detaches with the correct amount of predefined force, regardless of the impact angle.
• Revised lower shell: the volume of the lower shell in sizes M, L, XL, and 2XL has been increased by approximately 3% to facilitate putting on and taking off the helmet; this increased volume has also improved impact management, now standing 44% below the normal speed threshold.
• ECE 22.06 homologation: for the new ECE 22.06 standard, the SM5 achieves an impact rating at normal speed 44% better compared to the current figure of 33%, in addition to a linear impact score 32% better at low speed and 31% better at high speed than the current standard.
• Multi-density inner liner: ensures the right density in each area to improve impact absorption.
• Redesigned chin bar profile: the base area has been specifically sculpted to create a raised relief section that releases the collarbone, with a new softer EPS liner that extends beyond the helmet shell itself and is covered by a more flexible rubber compound, reducing the likelihood of collarbone injuries.
• Ventilation system: maximizes ventilation and offers a high level of heat exchange thanks to multiple air inlets and exhaust ports.
• Optimized weight: the ECE version of the SM5 helmet weighs 1,350 grams in medium size, and 1,420 grams in the ECE DOT version with visor.
• Visor design: has been developed to channel air towards the ports and improve airflow.
• Available versions: the SM5 is available in 2 versions: ECE R 22.06 and ECE R 22.06/DOT.
• The internal and external surfaces are designed to minimize the effects of oblique impacts. To help combat and mitigate these rotational impact forces, Alpinestars has developed proprietary technology by creating a low-friction surface on the inner side of the EPS liner. For the ECE 22.06 standard, which now includes rotational oblique impact rating, the SM5 stands 70% below the new regulation.

• The lightweight outer shell is constructed with a technologically advanced impact-resistant thermoplastic in three anatomical shell sizes, along with three individual EPS inner liner sizes with a combination of inner liner and cheek padding to offer 6 unique sizes and ensure the best fit and protection.
