• Thermoinjected shell: incorporates a special blend of polymers with variable thicknesses, designed to provide the optimal combination of lightness and impact performance.
• Thermoplastic construction: the lightweight outer shell is made from a technologically advanced, impact-resistant thermoplastic and comes in three sizes (Youth Small, Youth Medium, and Youth Large) to optimize fit and weight; the SM3 Youth weighs 1060 g (ECE) and 1170 g (DOT).
• Specific DOT/ECE versions: the shells feature separate versions to meet DOT and ECE requirements; in the DOT-certified version, the inner shell incorporates a composite fiber assembled between the outer shell and the EPS liner to maximize impact protection.
• Customizable fit: crown pads and cheek pads, available as replacements in different thicknesses, allow precise adaptation of the helmet to the rider’s head for better comfort and support.
• YM/YL growth system: the Youth Medium (YM) and Youth Large (YL) sizes share the same EPS size, allowing you to start with a YM helmet and later configure it to Youth Large as the rider grows, by using replacement crown and cheek pads.
• YS-specific fit: the Youth Small (YS) size uses a smaller EPS and can only be customized with cheek pads; Alpinestars' extensive research has shown that children who wear a YS size are typically between 3 and 4 years old and therefore require a specific helmet fit.
• NEW ALPINESTARS SAFETY STANDARD: Alpinestars has introduced a new internal standard for the SM3 Youth to subject the helmet chin bar to more demanding conditions than the homologation standard; to meet this new standard, both the shell thickness and design structure in the chin bar area have been optimized to provide superior impact performance.
• Equipped with an emergency release system and removable cheek pads for safe and easy removal of the pads while the helmet remains in place.
